Phase 1 Cometh

Life has been pretty mellow for me since the holidays. The Tree has just welcomed the January group of apprentices. It can be pretty quiet around Patagonia during the off season so it is a real treat to have new enthusiastic beings in the kitchen again.

Recent teachings here have brought up the topic of "What is Random?' Is there really such a thing as random acts or freak accidents? Buddist teachings will say no. It is said that we put into place all that happens to us. Every moment of our day is a result of the seeds that we have planted at some point of our past. Tim, Cafe manager, talks about how good me must have been in our past lives to be here at the Tree with beautiful people and organic live food cuisine. This way of thinking, although hard to grasp at times, really starts to make sense.

We receive in order to share. I am certain that if we go about our day in gratitude for life, and treat every being with kindness and unconditional love, we will reap the benefits in the future. We are taught to see God in all beings. Is god a white bearded man up in the sky who has everything planned out? Or by our actions, can we create the best life for ourselves? Gabriel teaches us to go out and share the vision of the Tree of Life with the world. Each person who comes through here is a beacon of light that sets out to shine light onto the world. Gandhi says, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

When will we stop blaming others for our problems and just start to make a positive impact on this world??

Courtney of Radical Radiance,, has just given me a dare. After telling her about my 40 dates consumed in 1 day, she challenged me to a Phase 1 diet for a week. Phase 1 is a diet based on Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine that consists of no fruit, and limits the use of fermented foods. For diabetics or others dealing with possible life threatening illness, phase 1 is a must. When eliminating fruits from the body, we take away the change for fermentaion in the body. When fermentation occurs, yeast overgrowth can lead to candida and cancers amongst other illnesses.

The one issue I see with phase 1 is that people can easily get into too many fats. Over the last few weeks I have been going 1-3 days a week without the addition of any fat to my diet. The day I consumed 40 dates, I also ran for over an hour, rode my bike around, and worked out at the gym. With no fat throughout the day, the carbohydrates were burned as fuel and not stored in the body. While exercise, I have been able to really get into my body, and can tell when I have consumed too many fats because my legs will feel like led weights. On low to no fat days, I have increased energy and more stamina. I make sure to eat an abundance of greens to off set the sugars and provide amino acids and minerals. Through the next week, I will eats mass quantities of greens!! I will shoot for 2-3 pounds of greens a day in the form of salads and juice. Celery. cucumbers, and sprouts will add water, sodium and life force energy to my body. I will try to limit fat intake to hemp and sesame seeds, my 2 favorites.

I will try to post my daily food consumption as I go. Fruit is such a staple in my diet, that this will be a challenge for me. Someone said this morning, "If you can run 60 miles straight, I think you can lay off fruit for a week." We shall see.

Blessings

Hi Frank! OK here are my 2 cents from some of your latest blog entrues - (finally a blog entry yes!!)

Recent teachings here have brought up the topic of "What is Random?' Is there really such a thing as random acts or freak accidents? Buddist teachings will say no. It is said that we put into place all that happens to us. Every moment of our day is a result of the seeds that we have planted at some point of our past. ******While yes much of what we sow - we reap & it is important to consider the long term ramifications of our thoughts and actions....and isn't it facinating to consider the possibility that we "put into place all that happens to us? - maybe what we put into place is a bit of randomness - to challenge ourselves or to wake ourselves up whether it is conscious or unconscious...I like to think there is a little thrill called the unexpected, the random suprise or sadness that we may or may not be able to prepare for, learn from and or grow from and develop coping skills due to and so on... this probably makes no sense....easier to actually talk about than to write for me.

We receive in order to share. I am certain that if we go about our day in gratitude for life, and treat every being with kindness and unconditional love, we will reap the benefits in the future. ****Even if the only benifit in is the actual moment of our feeling of gratitude and the actual moment of being kind or giving unconditional love - what we actually reap is in the moment - and our future is merely a continualtion of moment to moment to moment experiences that weaves and constructs our over-all life experiences - not just linear but multi-dimentionally.... and so Life is much more fulfilling when it is satuated with love, joy, gratitude and so on. The gratitude is the reward and the future is now. Again - may not make as much sense on the page as it does in my noggin'.

Good run this morning in WW - dusting of snow - perfect temperature - beautiful sky - felt pretty strong.
Am sleepy now,
