Making Things Happen!!
Today was a perfect fall day in southern Arizona. 75 degrees with a slight breeze coming from the south. Loving love!! Although I do miss autumn in New England, I am not missing the chilly weather. I took a drive 45 mile south to Parker Canyon Lake. There I would start thinking a bit about the future and began setting some goals. I certainly know that once healed, I hope to pick up the pace with my running. With that in mind I realized that I do not want to depend solely on running to get in the shape I need to be in to complete the ultramarathons of 50-100 miles at a pace that I am content with. With a possible entrance into the Vermont 100 in July 2008, I hope to be in the best shape of my life.
I have already begun plans of cross training by building myself a fixed gear bike. I have also begun adding 15 minutes of rebounding with weights every morning. For those new to the term rebounding, it is a low impact workout that is great for the lymphatic system as well as a lung and muscle tonifier. Rebounding simultaneously works every muscle in the body without the stress that running, walking or jumping on hard ground would do. With the weights, I can get an upper body workout while jumping. Starting the day with 15 minutes of rebounding in the cool outside air gives me a jump start.
In the past I have dabbled in Bikram yoga and had wonderful results from the intense and hot class. In only a short period of time that I took the classes, i noticed a huge difference in my strength and flexibility. Tomorrow I will begin taking classes again. Although classes are held in Tuscon, and is an hours drive, I feel the benefits are well worth the effort.
Last night I made an order from Mountain Rose Herbs. I want to start incorporating organic herbs into my diet through teas and blended smoothies. Some of the herbs I purchased were Gota Kola, Horsetail, Pau d' Arco, Cat's Claw, Ginkgo, Nettle Leaf, and Reishi Mushrooms. Brewed with goji berries, fresh vanilla bean and cinnamon, I will then blend superfoods like bee pollen, spirulina, cacao beans, hemp, honey and tocos for the most amazing alchemical smoothie ever!! Once my body absorbs the high powered nutrients, I feel unbelievable!! I have also added a large quanity of fresh vegetable juices to my daily diet. In the morning I enjoy a quart of celery, kale and cucumber. What a way to start your day!!
While down in Parker Canyon today, I saw a map of the Arizona Trail, which I just so happened to be standing on the lower AZ section. From where I was I saw that it was just 31 miles to Patagonia. Full of excitement and wishing my knee was healed I instantly made a plan. While I am in Arizona, my goal is to complete the entire 750 mile Arizona Trail. The AT stretches from the Mexican border through AZ until it reaches southern Utah. I will piece the trail together when time allows, but my top priority is to take on the 31 mile section. From Parker Canyon, it goes maybe a half a mile from my house. Right around the halfway make is a side road which I will be able to drop off some water so I will have reserves. Well that is if the illegal aliens don't get to it first!!
My roommate will drop me off early in the morning and I will hopefully be able to meet her back at home for lunch! Ah this is so exciting! I will be sure to let you know my progress as I prepare for the run.
Well what else is there to say?? Thanksgiving is sure to be exciting here at the Tree. This will be my first full on raw holiday. We open the grounds to the public and have a huge vegan potluck. We are expecting upwards of 300 people!! May you give thanks to life. This wonderful life that we are so lucky to be a part of. I am so grateful to have so many amazing people filling my life with love and encouragement every day of my life. God Bless you all!
