Winter Project Begins....
For some time now, I had had my eyes on this old Trek road bike. I know your probably saying that it looks like a junker, and your kind of right. With a few injuries that I have been facing lately, I realized that I need to start cross training and not soley relying on running to stay in shape. Also, from past experience, biking is a great way to work other muscles and a quicker way to see more of the surounding area that I live in.
Although I have a small amount of experience building bikes, I will rely on Bicas, for providing me with the information needed to put together a fixed gear road bike. Bicas, a community supported bike shop in Tuscon has a public shop and will provide all the tools necessary to build or fix a bike. The mechanics, don't work on bikes, they teach others all the info needed to build/fix/repair their own bike.
I am interested in a fixed gear bike for the constant movement it forces the rider to be in. No coasting on a fixie, ever!! Also for training purposes, the fixie will be more benificial since I will be riding on long stretches of roads, with little intersections, or traffic lights. So once I get moving, I will really just be able to keep a strong steady pace throughout my ride.
I am looking forward to the learning process of putting together a bike.
Eventually, I can learn how to build wheel, and really put a bike together from scratch. Please check out www.bicas.org for more information on a great program. I hope my finished product looks a lot better than the picture you see now!
